Year 1 homework
Each homework is broken down into 3 sections. The aim of each section is to:
A: assess your past knowledge/skills (assessed usually via exam questions),
B: assess your present knowledge/skills that you have learnt recently in lessons
C: prepare you for future content that will be covered in lessons
Each homework should equate to around 4.5 hours of your time a week
Your homework will be checked by your teacher weekly and recorded on your progression card

A: Test your knowledge of experimental research methods using the interactive quizzes in the digi-book (see pages 167-173). Identify any areas that you need to revisit and complete a focussed revision activity on them.
B: Complete the exam practice questions on pages 8-9 of this week's handout (Lesson 16: Interviews).
C: In preparation for next week's session: 1. Find a definition of 'peer review' and add this to your glossary list; 2. Describe an example of fraudulent research in psychology (e.g. the research on IQ by Cyril Burt) and briefly explain how peer review can guard against such fraud.

- Write up your psychological report for the experiment that your group conducted in your research methods lesson.
- Write an answer to the following 16 mark essay question: Discuss the Cognitive approach in psychology (16 marks)
- Tips to remember:
- Discuss means to describe and evaluate. (roughly this means 6 marks for describe and 10 marks for evaluation)
- Make 3 evaluation paragraphs (e.g. evaluate the approach in terms of research methods, practical applications and the nature vs. nurture debate)
- Make sure each of your evaluation paragraphs is structured using PEEL.

•A (past): As part of your summer homework you were asked to research the 5 main approaches in psychology. using those notes, answer the following exam question:

•B (present): This week you will be given an overview of the origins of psychology. From this lesson, your homework is to create a timeline of the approaches for your notes.
•C: (future): In lesson 3 next week you will sit a Baseline assessment test. This will examine aspects of your summer homework and maths skills . Attached is a guide below to help you prepare for the mathematical elements of the test. Make sure to look over the research methods section of your summer homework to prepare you for the psychology section.
